Pastors, what kind of legacy do you hope to leave?

This post was inspired by an article from The Gospel Coalition.

As a pastor, what kind of legacy do I hope to leave? What is the foundational precept of my pulpit ministry? What would have the greatest impact on those I've been honored to serve?

When the Lord calls me home, it is my hope that I will be remembered as a faithful follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. Someone who was devoted to serving Him and His people. Someone who desired all to come to know Him as Savior and Lord. However, central to that would be an unswerving, undeniable, undivided commitment to the Bible.

The greatest legacy would be a love for God's Word. If those I've been privileged to shepherd hold fast to the faithful word believing in its inspiration, inerrancy, and infallibility, then I've been successful as a pastor (Titus 1:9).

"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
