"We are not in the hands of blind fate! We are in the hands of God, whose purposes are very clearly set forth and whose goals fit perfectly into His plan."
Charles Swindoll
Learning to trust God is perhaps the greatest challenge before us, and it relates to every aspect of our life. Learning to trust Him with all our heart; learning to trust Him in times of trouble; learning to trust Him for His good and perfect will; learning to trust Him when fear and worry overtake us; learning to trust Him for the impossible; learning to trust Him in the midst of trials; and, learning to trust Him to strengthen our faith.
Trust is often challenging because it requires surrender and submission. It requires releasing our grip on the circumstances of life and recognizing that the sovereign God of the universe is in control - not us! We were born with the innate ability to trust ourselves. We come out of the womb with an amazing ability to put forth our own agenda and rely upon our own strength and know-how. But, if we are really honest with ourselves we would have to admit that we are not infallible, invincible, immortal, or immutable. We make mistakes, we are conquerable, we are subject to death, and we constantly change!
Why would we ever want to trust ourselves? Why trust in one who makes mistakes when we can trust in One who is perfect? Why trust in one who is constantly being defeated when we can trust in One can never be defeated? Why trust in one who is subject to death when we can trust in One who conquered death? Why trust in one who is always changing like the shifting winds when we can trust in One who is the same "yesterday, today, and forever" (Heb. 13:8)?
May we learn to trust Him!
Father, in Heaven, may we learn the beauty of trusting You. May we surrender and submit ourselves to You recognizing that you are sovereign. Your love never fails. Even in the midst of trials, troubles, and tribulations, may we realize that You never change and Your will is perfect for our lives. Father, may our hearts learn to trust You. In Jesus' name, amen.
